ANTICIPATED OUTCOMES

 

The residency is intended to support:

 

– Research-informed instruments, prototypes, demonstrations, performances, or lecture-performances
– New acoustic, electronic, digital, mechanical, or hybrid musical instruments
– Expanded design, fabrication, interaction, testing, documentation, and research methodologies
– Collaborative relationships among instrument inventors, designers, makers, developers, performers, and researchers
– More precise approaches to genealogy, prototyping, evaluation, repair, documentation, and presentation
– Critical understanding of originality, authenticity, and excellence as historically situated categories
– Clearer articulation of instrumental paradigms as operative forms of musical knowledge
– Public presentations at the seventh Bled Contemporary Music Week
– International relationships and future artistic, technical, or research collaborations
– New dialogue among instrument making, performance, composition, design, technology, and artistic research

 

The precise outcome of each project will depend on its premises, stage of development, and trajectory through the residency. The program therefore recognizes development not only through finished instruments or presentations, but also through clarified concepts and methods, revised designs, acquired material and technical knowledge, and sustained professional relationships.
