CENTRAL QUESTIONS

 

The residency may support inquiry into questions such as:

 

– Which paradigms shape how instruments, originality, authenticity, and excellence are defined in practice?
– How are instrumental paradigms transmitted through artifacts, bodies, workshops, institutions, markets, and technologies?
– Whose knowledge, labor, materials, and histories become exemplary, and whose remain peripheral or excluded?
– How do tools, standards, platforms, patents, and supply systems shape musical possibility?
– What happens when inherited models encounter different bodies, materials, environments, needs, or intentions?
– How can prototyping expose contradictions between declared values and operative design standards?
– How are agency, authorship, ownership, and responsibility distributed in use?
– When does an instrumental paradigm enable rigor, and when does it restrict imagination?
– How might new instruments reshape the criteria through which musical work is created, performed, and evaluated?
– Which sources, substances, and structures could support plural, accessible, sustainable, and compelling musical futures?

 

These questions are neither exhaustive nor mandatory. They indicate the artistic, historical, material, technological, methodological, epistemological, social, ecological, and ethical inquiries that the residency is designed to sustain.
