INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE

 

A central objective of [codex] is meaningful exchange among instrument inventors, designers, and developers working across cultural, educational, craft, technological, institutional, and musical contexts.

 

The residency’s international structure enables participants to encounter distinct instrumental paradigms, making traditions, design methods, and evaluation criteria; compare approaches; and examine how instruments are shaped by histories, materials, resources, infrastructures, platforms, and working environments.

 

International exchange is understood not as the passive representation of difference, but as a practice of attentive listening, negotiation, translation, comparison, and shared inquiry. Participants are encouraged to articulate their positions precisely while remaining open to the possibility that sustained engagement with others may transform their frameworks, methods, designs, values, and assumptions.

 

Because the program extends across several months, relationships can develop through sustained contact rather than a brief encounter. The residency supports connections that remain meaningful beyond festival presentations and may generate future instruments, performances, projects, research, workshops, publications, open resources, or other forms of artistic and technical dialogue.
